Marmot's beginnings are steeped in functionality. In 1971, college students Dave Huntley and Eric Reynolds formed the idea of the Marmot club while on a school Glaciology project in the Juneau Icefields. To become a member in the club, one was required to climb any glaciated peak with another Marmot. Every member was a club president. During their expeditions and travels, the Marmots gained an appreciation for quality apparel and equipment. They started experimenting with different fabrics and materials. In 1973 Eric and Dave made prototypes of different products in their dorm, including down vests and sleeping bags. Soon Eric and Dave teamed up with Tom Boyce and opened a store in Grand Junction, Colorado. They called their rental and retail shop Marmot Mountain Works. So, in 1974, the Marmot brand was born. Marmot soon became one of the trailblazers of the outdoor industry, using Gore-Tex and down well before many other companies caught on. Marmot had added new technologies to it's line to make it even more functional. It's MemBrain and PreCip waterproof technologies are some of the best in the business. Marmot has grown from 7 dealers in 1974 to 650 in the US alone. It's products are distributed in 27 countries worldwide. Even though they have grown, Marmots commitment to it's customers and the locales they explore is undiminished. Marmot recycles and reuses everything possible while maintaining a quality line of products that are sure to satisfy customers. Not only are post-production materials targeted, Marmot also applies their conservation methods to all they do, including marketing and distribution methods. Their UpCycle products use recycled plastics and natural, organic, and renewable materials. Marmot puts a premium on performance, and they're able to achieve their sustainability goals without compromising the quality of their products. We love Marmot's offerings and we're sure that you will too. If we can offer insight or answer questions about the Marmot products we carry, give us a call at 1-888-SKICENTER.
