From it's beginnings, Patagonia has had two objectives. The first, to provide the most technical and comfortable sportswear and equipment in the outdoor industry, and the second is to accomplish that without harming the environment. In the early 1970's the Patagonia brand was born from Chouinard Equipment, Yvon Chouinard's climbing equipment business he started in 1965. In his endeavors to find improved clothing for climbing and other outdoor actvities, Chouinard began to import different pieces that fit the needs of the outdoor enthusiasts he supplied with climbing tools. As his company began to produce more clothing products, Chouinard realized that the clothing line needed a name. Patagonia was the perfect fit. Since, Patagonia has become one of the leading brands in the industry. Their commitment to the environment is unparalleled in the outdoor sporting world. Since 1986 Patagonia has donated 10% of their profits or 1% of total sales to grassroots activist organizations. Patagonia doesn't only put their money where their mouth is,they also put their products there. Patagonia has pioneered the use of renewable and environmentally friendly fabrics and processes in their products. Use of recycled polyester, exclusive use of organic cotton, and the elimination of toxic dyes are just some of the ways that Patagonia does their part for the earth. Their Gladiodor garment odor control technology is a natural, renewble alternative to metal ions. To date, 77% of their garments are recyclable and Patagonia has collected 12 tons of clothing for recycling. Patagonia was one of the pioneers of the synthetic fabric movement, with their Capilene baselayers and Synchilla fleece becoming staples for outdoor enthusiasts. Patagonia has evolved into one of the best known brands in the outdoor world, and we're proud to carry their baselayers, fleece, and snowsports outerwear.
